GCSE Exam style negative numbers word problems

Step 1:

To calculate John's net weekly income, we need to subtract his expenses from his earnings and then add the bonus:

Earnings: £300 per week

Expenses: £325 per week (negative value since it is spending more than earning)

Bonus: £210

Step 2:

To find the net weekly income, we perform the following calculation:

Net weekly income = Earnings - Expenses + Bonus

So £300 - £325 = -25

= -25 + £210

= £185

Therefore, John's net weekly income is £185.
